Planning a trip to Jasper National Park and only have one day to get the most out of this amazing place? We have you covered. Here are our suggestions if you're keen to get active, go exploring and soak up summer vibes on Jasper's best patios all in one day.

Maligne Lake

1-to-1.5-hour (48 km) drive from Jasper

Begin the day by heading to Maligne Lake. Budget plenty of time, as wildlife sightings are common and photo ops are abundant along Maligne Lake Road.

Choose Your Hike

From flat and mellow to steep and strenuous, you’ll have your pick of hikes once you arrive at the Maligne Lake.

Mary Schäffer Loop (Easy) | 3.2 kilometre loop. Give yourself 1 hour for this hike.

This gentle hike offers stunning views with minimal elevation gain. Explore the shoreline before venturing through a subalpine forest and past a collection of glacial kettles.

Lorraine Lake & Mona Lake (Moderate) | 5.8 kilometre out-and-back. Give yourself 2 hours for this hike.

Embark on a slow climb through a lodgepole pine forest, with access to two gorgeous alpine lakes along the way. This trail also serves as the starting point for Skyline Trail — a backpacking route deep into the mountains.

Opal Hills Loop (Difficult) | 8 kilometre loop. Give yourself 3.5 hours for this hike.

Looking for a challenge? This advanced route features a 500 metre elevation climb, with subalpine wildflower meadows along the way. Expect awe-inspiring Maligne Lake views as a reward for your efforts.

Lunch at The View

Refuel after your hike with lunch at Jasper’s most stunning patio, The View. Choose from a menu of internationally inspired shareables and handhelds, plus craft beers, wine and cocktails.

A patio with lots of people sitting at dining tables.

Pyramid Lake

1-to-1.5-hour (52 km) drive from Maligne Lake

Next, drive back through Jasper and over to Pyramid Lake Lodge. It’s the ideal setting for a kayak, canoe or cycling adventure. Rent a mountain bike to explore the scenic Pyramid Bench trail network. Trail 15 is the popular choice for beginners, while a trip to Katrine Lake or the Watertower best suits intermediate and advanced riders.
