Boating on Pyramid Lake

Picture an early morning on the calm, clear lake with a thermos of coffee or tea, surrounded by reflections of towering mountain peaks. Whether you prefer kayaking or canoeing, Pyramid Lake offers the opportunity to relax or get active on the water.

Adventure Advice

Browse these handy tips and tricks before you push off onto Pyramid Lake by kayak, canoe or paddle board.

Wear sunglasses and sunscreen

The reflection off the water can be intense and sends a lot of UV rays at unprotected skin. Depending on your activity, there's a chance you might end up in the water, so we suggest not sporting your favourite sunglasses in case they fall off.

Protect your electronics

If you need to keep your electronics on you, use a dry bag to keep them safe in the event of splashes or accidental dunking.

Learn the J-stroke

Whether you're in a canoe or a kayak, this paddling technique is essential to help you move around in the water efficiently. End each forward stroke with a prying twist to your vessel headed in a straight line.

Play it safe

Make sure you have a properly fitted life jacket. No matter how strong of a swimmer you are, a life jacket is a must-have when you're far from shore.

Check the forecast

A seemingly sunny day can turn into a storm quickly here in the mountains. Check the forecast to make sure your water activities aren't disrupted by rain.
