Offering a wide range of activities and things to do, Jasper is famous for its abundant wildlife and numerous, picturesque hiking trails. History buffs will also find plenty of attractions to pique their interest in this charming railway town.
Here in the Canadian Rockies’ most northerly park and amid some of its most rugged landscapes, there is a range of hikes from easy, marked trails all the way through to longer, back-country hikes. Jasper National Park really is a hiker’s paradise.
Jasper is rich in wildlife including caribou, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, wolves and even cougars. The 25-kilometre hike to the Sunwapta Falls, for instance, leads through major bear and moose habitats.
This guided trip in an aerial tramway takes you up Whistlers Mountain to an upper station, 2,277 metres above sea level. Boardwalks, complete with interpretive plaques, provide a safe place to enjoy the views, or you can head out on one of the many hiking trails to the summit.
