Please allow 10 minutes to drive from Jasper townsite to Maligne Canyon and 5 minutes from Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge on the Maligne Lake Road. This roadway provides breathtaking vistas and great opportunities for spotting wildlife. It’s also the road that leads to famous Maligne Lake and Spirit Island.

From the east end of the town site of Jasper, follow Highway 16 east for 3 km and take the turnoff for Maligne Lake Road to the right. Proceed over the iron bridge across the Athabasca River and stay left at the fork in the road. Follow the road to Maligne Canyon (on your right side).

Dress for the weather conditions, including snow/ski pants, a winter hat, gloves/mittens and a jacket. You will be outside for more than two hours — prepare accordingly.

  • Winter boots, ice cleats and a helmet.
  • A 2.5-hour tour led by a knowledgeable guide.

The tour takes approximately 2.5 hours, including gearing up.

The tour consists of a 4 kilometres hike in winter conditions. You should be able to climb three flights of stairs and a ladder to take this tour.

We have a maximum of 12 guests per guide.

Your tour will be at 9 a.m. the day after you check in. For example: If you check in on Thursday, your tour will be on Friday morning at 9 a.m. Please check in for your tour at Maligne Canyon Wilderness Kitchen.

No, unfortunately Maligne Canyon Icewalks are not wheelchair accessible.
